Inspired by Legendary Texas Mariachi Educators

About the Show

Get ready for the world premiere of MARIACHI, a new bilingual play inspired by the oral histories of legendary Texas mariachi musicians and educators.

Commissioned by the Center for Mexican American Studies and the Voces Oral History Center at the University of Texas at Austin, MARIACHI explores the origins of mariachi in Mexico, the rise of mariachi education in Texas schools, and the families and artists who carried this musical tradition across generations.

The production will also feature student matinee performances with live mariachi music, interactive artist master classes, and TEKS-aligned educational experiences connecting theatre, music, storytelling, and Texas cultural history.
