Una mujer entra a su casa y encuentra a su esposo acostado con otra mujer. Los amantes se sorprenden, la esposa no dice nada, no hace escándalo; al contrario, como traía el mercado para una cena sorpresa los invita a comer: a su esposo y a la amante de él. Lo primero que se dice al saber de la reacción de la esposa es: “Está loca”. Lo dirán los amigos, las amigas, los familiares, su propio esposo y la amante de su esposo. Pero, no solo en esta situación le dirán que está loca, también, y varias veces al día, se lo manifestarán: por exigir sus derechos, por no ser dócil, por discutir, por decidir sobre sus gustos sexuales, por decir “no”, por alzar la voz, por decir la verdad y, obviamente, por pelear. Yo (NO) estoy loca (basada en hechos reales) es la historia (las historias) de una mujer que se sale de lo tradicional, en una sociedad donde lo tradicional es dejar pasar, callarse, soportar. Historias que parecen de ficción, pero que están ¡todas! basadas en la vida real. Todo lo que aquí van a ver, pasó.

Las Jevas es un espectáculo de comedia teatral, que incluye stand-up comedy, obras cortas y parodias, creadas e interpretadas por Cristina Soler, Melissa Rodríguez, Lourdes Quiñones y Lucienne Hernández, actrices de la compañía de teatro puertorriqueña Teatro Breve. En esta versión de “tour” las actrices crearon historias acerca de la diáspora y otras realidades sociales puertorriqueñas dentro y fuera de la Isla.

Designed to support arts organizations and independent artists, the Symposium will explore how our arts can thrive during turbulent times, with emphasis on local community engagement and intercultural community building. Topics include audience building, collaborations, community as a campus, working with your city government, and how funders can partner with artists and arts organizations. The Symposium will be an opportunity for every participant to learn and teach.

A Cara Mia Theatre Classic Back on Stage!

An international co-production with Laboratorio de la Máscara from Mexico City.

Performed in contemporary and Mexican folk masks, Tina’s Journey is a visually stunning, heartfelt and moving production that is a treasure for all ages. Originally created for families and young audiences, Tina’s Journey is also a joyful and accessible way for young people to learn about the migration of children into the United States.

Tina’s Journey is about a young girl, her family and her ancestors who hope to cross the U.S.-Mexico border before the Day of the Dead holidays. For safe-keeping, Tina takes a piece of her native land in her pocket and her personal history in her heart. She also leaves a trail of marigolds for her ancestors to safely follow her family across the border. However, Tina’s new reality in the United States makes her ill to the edge of death. She believes that her past has abandoned her, but her eldest ancestor helps her understand that the coexistence of the two cultures will form part of her new identity.

About the Show

Cara Mía Theatre is developing a new play inspired by the oral histories of mariachi living in Texas, recorded by Voces Oral History Center at the University of Texas in Austin.
