If your students love the Disney movie Coco, they will love learning about the Days of the Dead in this short educational performance! Flores y Calaveras tells the story of a Mexican-American girl and her deceased uncle, who teaches her the beauty of the Mexican Day of the Dead tradition.

Inspired by a little-known event in Texas history, Crystal City 1969 is based on the true story of Mexican-American students in south Texas who walked out of their school and into civil rights history. Crystal City became an example of American Democracy at its best.

To DIE:GO in Leaves, by Frida Kahlo, is a “purely, intoxicatingly theatrical” production inspired by Kahlo’s paintings and biography. The result is a journey through the lifetime of Mexico’s most famous painter and a worldwide icon. To DIE:GO in Leaves, by Frida Kahlo, is a play that tells a story as much through movement and imagery as dialogue.

Orígenes/Origins
Orígenes/Origins tells the story of a teenager sent by her family to live with her father in the United States. Orígenes/Origins is a story of building a new home and identity in a new country while remembering your origins. Featuring masks, movement, and original music by Peruvian composer Fabricio, Orígenes/Origins is performed in Spanish with English subtitles.

Luchadora!

When an old pink lucha libre mask is discovered, an inspiring journey of cultural identity and family traditions unfolds! The story starts in a quaint Texas town in the 1960’s where we meet a young Lupita, who is about to unmask a big family secret. When Lupita decides to pursue her dreams of becoming a luchadora, she soon finds it difficult keeping her secret from her father. Audiences will not want to miss this moving story of a young girl that defies traditional roles of women and breaks personal barriers through her determination.

JUANA INÉS: THE CHILD WHO LOVED TO READ
This bilingual play tells the story of Mexican poetess Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, who lived in Mexico during the 1600s when women were discouraged from reading and writing. Through perseverance, Sor Juana overcame many obstacles to become the most celebrated poet in Mexico’s history. Highly imaginative, using movement, puppets, and audience interaction, Juana Inés: The Child Who Loved To Read is an excellent example to children of all ages.

THE WISDOM OF VIEJO ANTONIO
A bilingual storytelling performance that uncovers the mythology and culture of the ancient Maya. Utilizing masks and original music, this show meets TEKS objectives in Theater Arts, Music, History, and Cultural Heritage.

URSULA or let yourself go with the wind
Ursula tells the journey of Nadia, a 7-year-old, separated from her mother after seeking asylum at the US-Mexico border. As Nadia waits for her asylum to be processed, she reflects on the difficulties she is leaving behind in Honduras and her new reality. This moving play uses puppets, music, and movement to take audiences into Nadia’s mind as she tries to make sense of everything happening around her.
