Celebrating 25 Years. With, “Seeds of Transformation”, Cara Mía Theatre continues to reimagine what a theatre can be by establishing deeper connections with diverse Dallas artists, audiences and neighborhoods.

A series of intersectional arts experiences that range from a radio play with Soul Rep Theatre to a contemplative visual arts experience spanning the footprint of the Latino Cultural Center as well as the first co-production with Teatro Dallas, devised by the two groups.

“This is a new kind of season for Cara Mía Theatre that convenes artists from around the country and different local communities to turn our theatre into a gathering place for diverse voices.”

“My original vision for Cara Mía Theatre was to create new plays with a core ensemble that speak to the here and now of our city. Ready to inspire social change, we will take our one-two punch of ensemble-based plays and our Community Action programs through North Texas, Los Angeles, and of course, right here in our own hometown.”

“For 20 years, Cara Mía Theatre has spoken to important social and political issues. Our 2016-17 season will be no different. In what will be Cara Mía's largest season to date, we will present the most successful political play in our company's history during a turbulent election year, followed by a joyous holiday production for the entire family, a world premiere by an Obie winner and a classic by a Pulitzer Prize winner along with several new play development readings with an eye to the future. Cara Mía Theatre looks toward the upcoming season with excitement and with the purpose of inspiring the best from our artists and our community.”

“This season points to new directions for Cara Mía. For the first time, we will feature Teatro en Fuga, a festival of three new plays in progress, created and performed by our resident ensemble. We will also produce a politically charged collaboration with the Dallas Theater Center that I expect will surprise audiences with its storyline and style. But we will also return to our roots as a Chicano- centric ensemble with blu by Virginia Grise and our adaption of a Lorca masterpiece. More than ever, we are cultivating the talents from within our company to create unexpected thought-provoking theatre.”

“Next season marks a major transition for Cara Mía Theatre. It will be a major turning point for us not only because we are producing the first five-play season in Cara Mía’s history but because a total of four resident artistic ensemble members including myself will be directing some of the most exciting plays in the U.S. Latino canon. I am proud that as Cara Mía continues to mature as an organization, we continue to experiment, collaborate intensely, and give new talent the opportunities to create and produce.”
