Bringing the programming to you!
Reacting to real-time national and local events, Cara Mía Theatre creates programming that travels to artistic ‘deserts’.
In partnership with community centers, libraries, and storefronts, we bring free performances and forums to under-served communities.
Collaborating with Community Organizations
Since 2016, Cara Mía Theatre has collaborated with over 100 community organizations in Dallas.
On November 1, 2020, Cara Mía Theatre created The Day of the Dead Caravan for Victims of COVID-19 with Domingo Garcia, President of the National Office of the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC). On November 2, 2020, the two organizations made headlines with a traditional Mexican/Chicano procession across downtown Dallas, featuring 15-foot calavera (skeleton) floats, Mexican ballet folklórico dancers, and community members that arrived at Dallas City Hall plaza to hold a vigil for lives lost during the pandemic.
Cara Mía Theatre recently collaborated with Jorge Baldor and the Latino Center for Leadership Development (LCLD), the Latino Arts Project (LAP), and the Latino Theater Company in Los Angeles to present the virtual world premiere run of Ursula about child separation at the U.S.-Mexico border. For the opening night of Ursula on April 29, 2021, Mr. Baldor curated a post-performance panel discussion in English and Spanish on immigration reform featuring Nobel Peace Prize Winner, Rigoberta Menchú.
